Our Tips On Choosing The Perfect EV Charger For You

    1. Do You Want a Tethered Or Untethered Charger?

A tethered charger has an existing cable attached. This makes it a convenient option with next to nothing else involved, just simply attach the cable to your vehicle and start charging. People don’t want to be spending time fussing around with cables, so this is a very handy built in feature included in the device. The difference with Untethered chargers is they do not have the cable connected, this is something you will have to buy and attach separately. Although this can be a better option for those looking at it from a more aesthetical point of view, not to mention it gives you full flexibility to buy and change the length of your cable if you want to later on down the line. Because tethered chargers come with a cable it can be tricky if you want to change the cable at all later on. Both are easy when it comes to the electric car charging installation aspect of things and are relatively quick to install as well.

    2. What Price Will You Pay For Electric Car Charging Installation?

EV chargers come at all different prices which makes it accessible to almost anyone. Whilst you can get a charger that is super cheap or one that is on the more expensive end of the scale, your EV charger needs to be right for YOU. With the possibility of an OZEV grant in mind Its worth looking around for different options that fit your spending budget before you come to a final decision. We have a range of different electric vehicle charging options available starting with the EO mini EV charger as a slightly cheaper solution whilst also providing the Zappi EV charger (a popular choice) as a more expensive solution.

    3. What Do You Want Your Charger To Look Like?

Even though the primary job of an EV charger is to do exactly what it states, it doesn’t hurt to have a charger that looks aesthetically pleasing too. There are many different types, styles and shapes of EV chargers available, and these options are only growing. If you are looking for a relatively plain charger that blends in, we have the Zappi available for our customers. We also supply the Wall pod EV HomeSmart a black and green styled charger that stands out a little more, an ideal solution for some.

    4. Choosing An Electric Car Charger With Advanced Features.

Some chargers are simpler than others. Whilst some serve the basic purpose of charging your EV others give you accessibility to monitor your EV, change charging modes as well as other additional preferences you can set. Some people prefer a charger with more advanced technology and other people simply just want to charge their vehicle without any features that could be complicating. Our advice? If you want a charger that provides you with the most advanced technology so you can track and change your charging settings frequently, we recommend our Zappi charger. If you want a more simplistic charger, we recommend you have a look at our Evlink Wall box charger. Still delivers ultimate flexibility and control just without the more advanced features you may not need.

How Much Does Your Electric Bill Go Up With An Electric Car ?

Depending on the size of your battery, the cost of charging your electric vehicle will depend on the make, model and how far you travel on a regular basis. As an example, if you travel 8000 miles a year, you would use an additional 2800kWh of electricity depending on the vehicle you own. This would be equal to 3.5miles per 1Kwh of power.

It's worth looking around to see what tariffs the electricity company's offer. "Economy 7" allows you to get much cheaper electricity during off-peak hours during the night. Typically this is a 7-hour window when the demand on the grid is lowest. The only thing to remember is the time it will take to charge your electric car. A Tesla with a 100kW battery will take a greater length of time to charge than a Renault Zoe 30 kW battery.

How Many Solar Panels Does It Take To Charge An Electric Vehicle ?

You're the proud owner of a new EV and helping to protect the environment and hopefully save some money on your travel costs. You'll soon start looking around at ways to reduce your charging costs. The most obvious solution is to charge your EV via solar. The number of panels needed will massively depend on the size of your car battery.

You have to remember unless you are using battery storage the power generated by your panels has to be used immediately either to power your appliances including your car or its sold back to the grid. If you work during the day and are only home during the evening after dark your not going to generate any power!

Should I Charge My Electric Car Every Night ?

Ideally, to extend the battery life of your car, the battery should be kept charged between 20 - 80% all the time. Most chargers have the option to limit the charge to say 80%. Depending on your driving requirements for the next day is going to be the main factor if you decide to charge each night.

Zappi Charger - The Eco Smart EV Charger In A League Of Its Own

Zappi is an EV charger with a difference. Not only does it operate as a traditional EV charger, it can also charge your EV using 100% FREE energy generated from your Solar PV or wind generation. The Zappi can charge your vehicle using your PV during the day and be set to charge at the most economical times at night if you have preferred economy rates from your energy provider. All controllable by the MyEnergi app. If you don’t have a PV system, the Zappi can still operate like an ordinary EV charging station importing power from the grid. You can always add additional solar to the system later.
