Is My Home Suitable For Solar PV Checklist
Orientation
South-facing is the best roof orientation to have when looking for solar to be installed. Whilst many of our customers have east, west-facing roofs and still get good panel efficiency with only minimal loss of production, south-facing roofs get the sun for the longest amount of time and see it when it's at its peak, which means they tend to generate more electricity.
I Have A North Facing Roof Can I Get Solar?
Whilst considering solar one of the most important things that make for a successful PV system is what direction your roof is facing. North facing roofs can cause issues when it comes to solar because the overall energy production and output is a lot lower than it would be with a south-facing roof. This doesn’t necessarily mean you cannot get solar, there are options available that may make it possible, however, we generally recommend solar to people with south, east and west-facing roofs.
Structure
Whilst deciding if solar is the right fit for you It’s crucial that as solar panel installers we ensure the structure of your roof is stable enough to withhold the added weight solar panels carry. Usually, this isn't a problem and it's unommon that we come across roofs with structural challenges, however, we do always complete visual surveys just to be certain.Do I Have Enough Space For Solar Panels On My Roof?
As reliable solar panel installers, we believe this is an Important point to consider before jumping straight into getting solar installed on your home. A standard home has a 4kw system with between 16-20 panels needing between 25 and 35m2 roof space to accommodate this. You should also bear in mind that any roof-mounted installations cannot be fitted to close to the external edge and need around 15cm outer edge space free for on-roof and around 25cm for in-roof installations. This will impact the overall size system of your system.

Will My Solar Panels Require Regular Maintenance?
Luckily solar panels don’t require much maintaining, we do however advice all our customers have an annual maintenance checkup to make sure everything is working as it should. Solar panels have an average deficiency of around 0.5% to 1% a year which over 25 years isn't much at all. However, it's worth getting your panels checked anyway especially if it's been a while since you’ve had them installed. This means you won't worry, and we’ll know your panels are in excellent condition. Besides providing over a decade of experience as top quality solar panel installers we also deliver an excellence maintenance scheme. Our yearly solar servicing includes a thorough clean of your panels from our team of MCS accredited solar panel installers as well as an inspection of your solar PV system for any faults.Solar Panel Costs
